Deep Breath.... okay, Memorial Day Weekend Success?

While I had a great Memorial Day Weekend, I have to say that it wasn't flawless. In fact, it was pretty troublesome!

Thursday night I pass out and at around midnight my boy wakes me up to say that our Fluffer McFlufferson's (a.k.a. our puppy) leg was broken! I couldn't even process this information. Our lil' guy wasn't crying or anything -- he was just chillin' and walking around on three legs. Apparently he was running to the back door to go out and slipped (we have tile) and he kind of tumbled out the door and down the step. Oy. So, we head to the Doggie E.R. and they do X-Rays... and he needs SURGERY! Seriously!? This was just something that I had *never imagined* happening. We were upset. Devastated. Do you know how much puppy surgery costs? I am sure you never want to find out! They did the surgery on Friday (inserted some metal plates and screws or something) and we were able to take him home on Saturday.
He can't run or jump for 60 days (Well, 56 and *Counting*) and we have to keep him on a leash when we take him outside. He is in good spirits, he's just real mad he can't do anything. I don't blame him. He's in his prime! Two months is forever in dog years!

Needless to say my Friday was pretty much depressing--trying to figure out how to fix our pup and what was going to happen. I had to leave work early just because I was kind of distraught. Everyone is fine now, but it was not how a holiday weekend was supposed to begin!

Saturday morning we picked him up and I got ready for my day. I was heading to a baseball game to tailgate and see Hall & Oates in concert (haha!).
'80s attire was a necessity.
I look SO tired! Being in the sun all day made me a sleepy girl.
I may have nodded off sometime in the 7th inning.

My good friend came into town for the weekend, so it was great to catch up. She somehow managed to get us on the field for the concert and it was pretty neat to sit in the plastic grass (because it's an indoor field) and check it out.

Sunday we got up bright & early and headed to the beach -- along with everyone else in this state. We had a great time tanning (I sucked at applying suntan oil and now have stripes on my body ... spray sunscreen did not apply evenly... haha). We ended up exploring the coast and hopped on a beach trolley and visited a few different places. We ended up catching the sunset...

...and then we headed home for some much needed rest.

On Monday morning we had mimosas, breakfast and ended up finding a BP protest. It was kind of neat to see so many people out there in the crazy heat standing up for what they believe in. :) There were lots of cars showing their support while cops looked on. Since I live on the Gulf of Mexico, it's a heated issue here.

I'm glad everything is well and it seems that everyone had an amazing weekend. Let's hope my pup has a speedy recovery and can go back to running & jumping like he's used to!

Awww, poor puppy!! :(

It's good to see people standing up to BP! Everyone here has been refusing to use any BP gas stations. So far we haven't had any oil on our shores, but every now & then when the wind blows you can smell it.

Oh noes! I hope your pup feels better soon!

I just wanted to pop over and thank you for entering my Karma Cards giveaway on Juliana's blog. We've got a few sets left, you're still keen (cough, shameless self-promotion, cough) ;)

I can't even imagine trying to keep my dog still for two months! Glad yours is okay though.

Aww your poor puppy! I know all about pet surgery, our cat needed to have a leg removed, he's fine now and gets around like he was never missing it, but it was rough. It was pretty hard to keep a cone on a cat for 2 weeks so he wouldn't chew the drain out. He was his own litter box scooper :o\

But over all it sounds like you had a great weekend and your little guy is going to be running around in no time!

I have a good idea of what a dog surgery like that costs since Jexi has some knee problems that are common and we had to find out if she needed the surgery or not. Thankfully she didn't! It was a deal breaker for us. But now...I can't imagine NOT paying for it! We are so attached to her! So I know how scary and sad that must have been for you guys to deal with that!
That's so sad that he has to be careful with his leg for so long! But good for you guys for doing the right thing!

I hope your pup feels better. The pic of him in the cast is so sadly sweet. He doesn't even look that upset.
