Islamorada | Vacation Day Three

After a pretty wild two nights, we decided to wake up early and spend the day fishing. I have never really *gone* fishing for an extended period of time. Sure, I've thrown a line over on a bridge or the occasional pier... but very rarely on a boat. We got up early, headed to CVS because we realized we both had somehow mysteriously misplaced our sunglasses (see silly cheap sunglasses below), and got to the marina to board the boat.

I wasn't sure what to expect. It's an all day fishing charter out of a fishing city. There were lots (and lots) of boys. There was maybe three girls on the whole boat (And two of them knew the captain!), so I knew this was going to be a dirty fishing trip! When we left the marina, they took us out about an hour and a half to some reefs. The water was beautiful and the sun was shining. It was very relaxing.

I will say that I have heard going fishing on a charter boat can make people very, very seasick. The constant rocking when you're sitting there trying to catch fish has made many of my friends throw up overboard. I bought some seasick medicine just in case and took it as we left. Bad idea! This medicine made me SO so SO drowsy. The first two hours of the trip I sort of just sat there in a daze. I perked up after a bit (and a beer) and got my rod and started to *fish.* I legtimately caught two fish... but neither were things that you could eat. I don't remember the names of them but one was a type of grouper that had polka dots and the other fish was something that stings people if you touch it. Awesome. My boyfriend fiance did let me reel in something that he caught... so I technically got a fish. ;)

What everyone caught on board

After a very long seven hours on the boat we headed back to our hotel and grilled one of the bigger fish right there! It was pretty neat. We stopped at an organic farmer's market nearby and got some corn on the cob for $1 and we had ourselves a meal. It was really fun. I'm surprised that I actually said a seven hour fishing trip with lots of dudes was fun... but it was.

I love all the colors in this pic! LOL

Dinner!

We definitely passed out at 8 p.m. I was asleep before sunset on a Friday night! Major fail. We slept a solid 14 hours before beginning the best day of our vacation...

How fun! We're planning on doing a deep sea fishing day on our honeymoon- will definitely be packing some sea sickness meds just in case!

Ugh sea-sickness...I went to my Dr. and got a prescription patch for our cruise. I never felt nauseous, but the rocking was not fun.

Your fiancee is so sweet for letting you reel in his fishy!

Ah I want to catch a fish! We are thinking about heading to the ocean to do a charter too and get some halibut! I can't believe your touching the fish.. I leave that part to the boy. When is the engagement happening? I keep reading and waiting :)
