CSN Stores Review: Le Creuset

If you remember, a few weeks ago I was deciding what to buy from CSN Stores. With over 200 specialty online stores, I knew this would be a challenge. I *had* narrowed it down to either a Rachael Ray fondue set or a popcorn maker. Yet, I was drawn to Le Creuset. Oh, it's beautiful. It just was calling my name...
Yes, I own Le Creuset and I'm loving every minute of it. I ended up purchasing the 2-Quart Pitcher and the Stoneware 10.5" x 7" Baking Dish in Cherry with a 7" x 5" Bonus Dish. And, lucky me, but these particular items had free shipping! Score!

CSN Stores had fast shipping and a very simple to use online ordering system. I had zero problems placing my order and I received confirmation very quickly. Many items, like the pitcher, had same day shipping so everything was at my front door fast. I was wondering how such delicate items were to be shipped... but everything came in great shape! The packaging CSN Stores used was super sturdy. I could have thrown that box off the roof of my house and nothing would've broke.

Everything was priced fair and it helped that I got that bonus free shipping. JC Penney is selling the same pitcher for $39.99... are they crazy?! CSN had it for a cool $24.95.

Another neat feature is that CSN keeps tabs of how many of each product are available so you aren't guessing if it's going to sell out! Right now the pitcher has over 5 in stock, so if you made an order, you KNOW you would get your hands on one of those babies. :)

So if you're looking for some awesome cookware, go splurge and get some Le Creuset stuff! CSN has some great deals on some of their awesome stoneware. But, don't forget, with over 200 other specialty stores... you're bound to find just about *anything* else you might want.

The question is... what did I do with my new kitchen stuff? I'll give you a hint... I used the pitcher first and made a very tasty summer beverage...

Top 2 Tuesday: Best Dates

I know that Tuesday is almost over, but I couldn't resist playing along in this week's topic. It can be really hard to narrow it down to "best dates," so here are just two great nights that I'll never forget.

1. Our First Date - We met for dinner & drinks and I ended up thirty minutes away from home at a local brewery (now one of our favorite places). We got there kind of late and ordered a pitcher. A few minutes later the bartender was saying it was last call and we had to GET OUT! So, we didn't want to *waste* this magical beverage so we started to drink faster. Well, this beer is locally brewed and is so amazing but it's thick and very fresh. As we finished it and walked to the parking lot... he puked everywhere. There, I said it. He had upset his stomach and it all came flying out. I'm laughing hysterical at this point. I mean, it's just ridiculous. On the first date, you hurl outside the bar. It was charming. He had me at BLLLLLLLLLLLLLLAGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!

2. 80s Valentine's Day Prom - We didn't know what to do for Valentine's Day the year before last, but I had remembered seeing this 80s prom. It sounded neat...so we got all dressed up and listened to an 80s cover band and hung out at this bar.
I had so much fun getting ready and crimping my hair!

Mmmm....tequila!

What a weekend. I woke up feeling refreshed and *ready* to go this week. I love that feeling! Here's what I was up to this weekend:

Friday: We had beer battered chicken wings and locally brewed beer at one of our favorite neighborhood spots. I'm not going to lie. At 9 p.m. I decided I want to *sleep* so we went home, played a game and went to bed. I also made sangria (recipe and pics to come!). Mmmm!

Saturday: I was one of those crazies that woke up at 6 a.m. to go to Old Navy. The $1 flip flop just sounded like something I should attend. I'm not desperate for cheap flops, but I just felt like I *had* to be there. There were easily 100 women in line...each with their story about why they needed cheap flip flops. One girl was getting married and needed favors (I'm assuming beach wedding), another woman needed twenty pairs for her children and the many foster kids she watches for a few weeks at a time. Needless to say I was about 50th in line and when the doors opened it was a MADHOUSE. I survived and made it out with five cute pairs. If I had been a tad bit earlier I would have really got awesome pairs, but I got good ones. I really wanted these silver ones... but they only cost $3.50 so it's not like I can't *buy* them full price when they restock. Either way, it's just funny the lengths people will go for something that costs a dollar. =)

The rest of the day was spent at Caladesi Island and Honeymoon Island. The weather was ideal and the water was perfect. There were stingrays *everywhere* though -- the park ranger warned us that five people had already been stung that day! Ick! I definitely was more paranoid about going in the water after that. You would think that I would be used to sting rays and jelly fish since I grew up practically in the ocean... but it still freaks me out.

For some reason I decided to start geocaching that day. I had heard about this forever ago, but I kind of forgot about it. It's basically a GPS treasure hunting type "game." There are literally tons near my house so I figured we should give a try. Using the iPhone app on my phone, we found our first one in the mailbox of a local business when we were at the bar. It was kind of neat. It's definitely a cheap way to pass the time.

Sunday: I shopped *all* day. Target, Payless for their BOGO sale (work shoes were needed!) and CVS. I spent $18 at CVS and got $16 in extra bucks back. I love sales like that! :)

I also cooked -- which is rare. I made some yummy tequila shrimp from a recipe that I saw on Hungry Girl's site. It was amazing!

Ingredients:
  • 8 oz. raw shrimp, peeled, deveined, tails removed
  • 2 Roma tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 3 tbsp. (1 1/2 oz. or 1 shot) tequila
  • 2 tbsp. lime juice
  • 2 tbsp. coarsely chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 tsp. minced garlic
  • 1/4 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
Directions:
Bring a large pan sprayed with nonstick spray to medium heat. Add onion and garlic, and cook until onion is slightly translucent, about 3 minutes. Carefully add tequila to the pan and stir. (It's unlikely it will flare up, but be cautious, just in case.) Cover the pan and let simmer for 5 minutes. Add shrimp and cook for about 3 minutes, until shrimp are nearly opaque. Add tomatoes, lime juice, cilantro, chili powder, and salt, and mix well. Stirring occasionally, cook until tomatoes have softened and shrimp are cooked through, about 2 minutes.

I did not start a fire when cooking with alcohol and I actually made something that tasted good. I am *trying* to "learn to cook" even though it's just reading instructions.

Here's to a good week!

Show Us Your Life -- Tampa Bay

I have never participated in a "Show Us Your Life" weekly link-up yet... but this week's topic was too good to resist. As you know, I live in Florida. I always have and I think I always will. This (to me) isn't a bad thing. I adore the sunshine, the beaches, the theme parks. So, here is a taste of "my life" in my city of Tampa Bay...

Tampa is moderately large. There are many suburbs and adjoining cities that I can't mention Tampa without mentioning St. Petersburg or Clearwater. Every place is about thirty minutes away. You want to go to the beach? Thirty minutes. You want to head to the fancy mall in Tampa? Thirty minutes away. I live in a part of town where I'm closer to the beach and farther from the city, but I enjoy every minute of it and don't mind the long commute.

That's a lot to cover, so here we go...

We have sports.

Bucs Football.

Arena football (Storm).
The Outback Bowl is here every year. And, yes, I am wearing shorts on December 30th. Thanks for noticing. :)

Rays baseball -- my personal fave.
Spring Training. The Yankees, Blue Jays and Phillies are all in the Bay area.

Lightning hockey... what you didn't know we could ice skate here in Florida?
We so can.

Besides sports, Tampa is known for strip clubs. Really, we were somehow crowned the "lap dance capital of the world." Kind of funny -- especially since the Republican National Convention decided that Tampa would be its home base in 2012!

(No, I didn't go in, we were walking by for corn dogs and milling near the stadium during the Super Bowl when it was in town)

Tampa also has an unhealthy obsession with pirates. Every year people prepare for Gasparilla--which is a parade that encourages people to scramble for plastic beads while drinking massive amounts of liquor. It's socially acceptable to walk around with an eye patch or to be passed out on the ground.

Tampa love pirate ships SO much -- they are strewn about town.
Does that one look familiar to you? Well, I hope not, but it at the St. Petersburg Pier and was used in the filming of the adult film "Pirates."
St. Pete Pier

But, what people love most about Tampa Bay (I think!) is the beaches.
& the sunsets are not so bad themselves.

So, just to recap. Sports, pirates, beaches and strip clubs. Welcome to Tampa.

A Century Turns Book Review

I'm not going to lie. I wanted a free book and this was the only one available through Booksneeze at the moment. When I received it, I felt like it was a summer reading assignment for a government class. I've read worse in my college courses, so I wasn't daunted by the size of the text. I flipped open the cover and began my journey...

A Century Turns: New Hopes, New Fears is written by William J. Bennett. According to Wikipedia (okay so not the most reliable source, but I just wanted to basics!), Bennett is an American conservative politician and political theorist. He served as United States Secretary of Education from 1985 to 1988. He also was the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy under George H. W. Bush. I tried going into the book with an open mind, but I could already see that I wasn't aligned with Mr. Bennett's political affiliations. Oh well, on we go!

The book started the election of President George H. Bush and ended with the election of President Barack Obama. It definitely is for someone who considers themselves to be a history buff or for someone who enjoys conservative commentary. Bennett covers other topics like the standoff in Waco, the Oklahoma City Bombing, the OJ Simpson trial, the war in Iraq... really heavy stuff. I enjoyed the pop culture references and the photographs (I sound like a teenager!), but I did appreciate the seriousness of this text. I could definitely see myself passing this along to a colleague or a relative for their review.

This book isn't for your beach trip or relaxing poolside tanning session. Yet, it is an interesting look at recent history from a viewpoint that I usually don't read. It definitely has its own merits.

*I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze.com book review bloggers program. The opinions I have expressed are my own and were in no way influenced.

Thursday 5

Today's the day where we (those of us that want to) post 5 things that have made us

Joyful
Giddy
Excited
Thankful
Jubuliant
or
Just plain ol' happy this week!

My *Five*
1. I read an entire book...and it wasn't a comic book. I love to read, but I never manage to actually finish a book. It's sad. I purchased Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang before it even came out (pre-order) and I just *now* finished. Oy. I did LOL at a few parts, but sad to say, I think her other books were better. Think she HAD to mention E! Entertainment Network in every chapter? There were some funny one liners though: "I know that Mike Tyson has a tattoo on his eye, and that's a pretty good indicator that all cylinders are not firing." I don't know why, but I really laughed at that.

2. My boy is off *all weekend.* This is a very rare thing. He works in media so his hours are usually completely opposite of mine. I have a crazy sleeping schedule where I'll wake up at 2 a.m. when he comes home to catch up and chat about our days. This weekend will be nice!

3. I have an ice luge freezing in the freezer. Shots all weekend.
4. The weather has been beautiful. A trip to Caladesi Island this weekend is in the works. Google told me that Caladesi Island was named the #1 Beach in America in 2008 by renowned "Dr. Beach" (Dr. Stephen Leatherman) who annually ranks U.S. beaches. I went there before for a brief trip and it was nice... but it wasn't the best beach I've ever seen. They don't even let you drink on the beach...hello.... totally lost points there. ;)

5. I'm starting a Saturday link up type deal about staying in. I have a few products to review and they are all things that are good ideas for staying in on Saturday night with good friends. :) Check it out in two days and maybe you'll play along. I know a lot of people don't visit Blogger regularly on the weekend--which is fine! My weekly meme will be for those true partiers who stay in on Saturday nights with a good board game and a tasty pitcher of sangria. Or an ice luge.
