43 Things

In 2005 I had a 43 Things account. Did anyone use this website? It was basically a "To Do" list or a list of goals. The fun thing about this social networking site was that people could virtually cheer you on, ask questions, and blog about your success. In 2005, things like Blogger were not as popular and Facebook wasn't even that big yet. I remember using this site for a while and I recently remembered my log in information and I had to see what goals I was "still currently working on" and what goals were important to me all those years ago.

Your Life List
1. Get (or renew) a passport [*Done!*]
2. Finish graduate school [FINALLY done this semester!]
3. exercise daily
4. backpack through Europe
5. go on a road trip with no predetermined destination [Working on it]
6. get published
7. see more broadway shows [Didn't happen]
8. visit all 50 states [Not even close]
9. Ice skate in Rockefeller Center
10. be less critical of others [I'd say I was pretty good at this]
11. identify 100 things that make me happy (besides money) [I think this should be a future blog entry!]
12. paintball [Nope]
13. learn to surf [Not even]
14. Swim with dolphins
15. get married on the beach [DONE! Woo!]
16. go to vegas
17. see snow fall
18. ride in a hot air balloon
19. celebrate New Years in Times Square
20. sleep under the stars [Still haven't gone camping]
21. visit Greece
22. learn italian [nope, and not even sure if I want to...]
23. go to a shooting range [Never]
24. Get a library card [Finally! I did this!]
25. Attend the olympics.
26. walk the great wall
27. Go rockclimbing and make it to the top
28. spend Christmas in New York
29. try a new recipe once a month [I have managed to keep up with this!]
30. Go white water rafting
31. Lose 10 pounds [It fluctuates]
32. grow an herb garden
33. Give up fast food for 1 week. [Done and Done!]
34. travel
35. Run a mile

The goals below are hilarious--to me at least. In 2005 I was....21. I probably kept up with this site from the times I was 21 to about 23. It's just funny how some of my goals were totally vain, totally lame, and things that shouldn't have been "real" goals. Either way, I accomplished them...

Things I Did Back in 2005
1. smoke out of a hookah [Haha...seriously?! This was a goal?!]
2. drink more water
3. go on a cruise [Best travel decision ever!]
4. pay off my credit card
5. Help a Democrat get in the White House [LOL, I was a volunteer in 2004 and 2006)
6. Get a tattoo [Done times two now!]
7. get a new digital camera [I've probably had about 4 since then]
8. lose 20 pounds [ I should remember how far I have come since 2005... ]
9. meet someone famous [Often!]

Hello, Nick Carter.

10. go to a basketball game
11. go to a tampa bay buccaneers game
12. go to a new york yankees game
13. meet new people
14. go to more concerts
15. drive confidently
16. get a car [Finally when I was 21!]
17. go clubbing [I didn't go to clubs until I was 21 either]
18. get a job [Had a ton since then!]
19. Get a gmail account [Woo! Remember when GMail was invite only?]
20. take dance lessons
21. organize my mp3s [Sort of. They're a mess again now!]
22. Learn to Play Texas Hold'em
23. Go to a New York City Parade [Gay Pride Parade in 2005, it was a BLAST! For real.]
Carson from Queer Eye was the Grand Marshall!

24. Go to Disney World
25. Go To A My Chemical Romance Concert [Wow, really?!]
26. see a Broadway show in New York [Two of them. Rent and Avenue Q!]

This was the lead, Barrett Foa. Wonder where he ended up?! [Oh Wow! NCIS! I had no idea!]

27. visit new york

28. get my driver's license
29. complain less [I had a whole new attitude when I was this age, I was so positive!]
30. dye my hair red [Done and not doing again, lol]
31. Have my own Domain Name [Yep, I had a domain in 2005 and it sat abandoned! Glad I use this one!]

It's always nice to see how far you've come and realize where you are going. I am a totally different person at 26 than I was at 21. Some of my personality traits remain the same but my overall demeanor has changed. I feel more motivated, more focused, definitely more optimistic. When I was 21, I had all these plans and goals but no resources to actually carry them out. Now that I'm in graduate school and working full time, it is a lot easier to travel or take better care of myself. I'm definitely thankful for that.

Do I miss being 21? Well, who doesn't miss College Night at the club where ladies drink free all night and it took only 3 screwdrivers to feel reallllly wild!? But, no, I don't. I love where I am at now and I wouldn't change it for anything. =)

Great post! I love to read about people's goals, past and present. :) I'm chipping away at a bucket list of my own.

If you come to NYC over the holidays, you could cross several of those off in one trip! :)

Ooooh I love this! I always have the best time going back & reminiscing on the way I used to be or think. It's funny how times change :)

I'm totally jealous that you met Nick Carter. He was my main man!
