October Followers Fest {Linkup}

I'm always one to join linkups where there's a whole new batch of bloggers I hadn't discovered before! This link up party is kind of HUGE and {hopefully} amazing. I'm glad to join it today.

Photobucket

Oh yes -- Follower Fest!

Anyway, the hostesses hoped that everyone would post about fall, Halloween, or perhaps provide an introduction. Using my bestie Pinterest, I figured I would link up some seasonal drinks I have pinned recently. Oh, cocktails. :)

Honeycrisp Apple Sangria. Must. Have.

Pomegrante Champagne Punch. Champagne anything is awesome. ;)

Make your own Candycane Vodka... This... looks like a fun project.

Milk & Cookie Martinis. Totally a holiday drink while you wait for Santa!

Cranberry Margaritas! This is very festive - perfect for a holiday party!

What a cute little martini! Silent Night Martini. The color is gorgeous.

And...just for fun... and my BIRTHDAY is coming up:

Birthday cake jello shots. Sign. Me. Up.

*-*-*

If you're visiting from the link up, I'm Krystal. I'm closer to 30 than 20 nowadays and just got hitched. We moved to Southwest Florida about a MONTH ago so lately things have been...different. I'm three hours away from my family and friends, but I'm relatively optimistic about this experience. We both took jobs in industries that we liked and we were able to find a cute little house for us and our THREE (!) dogs. I blog about random things... like what I bought, what I read, what I want to buy. I participate in linkups every so often and I host giveaways!

Like these:
Clairebella Personalized Serving Tray from Carolina Clover {Ends on 10/31}
Dove Nourishing Oil Hair Products {Ends on 11/01}

I also am hosting my *Very own* link up starting this Tuesday where you can post all your favorite songs from decades past!

Go here for all the details!
Music!
So hopefully I'll see some new faces on my blog! Welcome & Happy Friday! :-)

Eff, Marry, Kill {Ridiculous Edition}

photobucket

Heather & Michelle hilariously decided to have a one day link up where you play a little game... Eff, Marry, Kill. Since this link up is meant to be silly ... I had to pick a group of dudes that are seriously, seriously ridiculous.

Enter *NSync. Duh. Of course I picked them.

Holy old school. This is like 1996 style right here. Their "European" debut {which was before they came to good ol' America and blessed us with their boy band ways}.

Oh god. Terrible. LOVE the matching lavender outfits.

They probably wanted to kill themselves after being asked to pose whimsically among tulips.

So.... now the question remains.... Eff, Marry, Kill?

From Right to Left -- people!

Eff - JT. Like there was any question. But, he seems like a super douche.
Marry - JOEY! Totally underrated. He was hilarious.
Kill -- Sorry, JC. I had to pick someone.

So.... who would you?

Christmas Cards With Shutterfly

It's practically November which means it's pretty much time for the Christmas craziness. And, since you know I'm all about snail mail, Christmas cards are pretty important to me! Last year I had a great wall of cards going and I can't wait to send {and receive!} some awesome cards this season. Shutterfly never disappoints and last year we experienced fast shipping and a high quality cutesy card. See below:

Oh Ho Ho Christmas Card
For hundreds of Christmas card designs, click here.
View the entire collection of cards.

I know, I know, out crazy dogs sat still for ONE second to snap a picture!
But this year is different. We got married. We adopted a THIRD (!) dog. This time -- I'd love to squeeze us all in if possible. It's probably unlikely because trying to get 3 dogs to behave for a minute to take a picture is impossible, but it's a nice thought. Here are some of my favorite Shutterfly cards from this year's selection:

You & Yours Christmas Card

Such Good Cheer Christmas Card
I like anything with the word "cheer" in it -- obviously.

Oh So
Wonderful Christmas Card
I love the simplicity of this one. I also like that they're on the sand... nice idea for Christmas pictures!

Cheers Zig Zag Christmas Card
I'm way into the unique size and shape of this card!

Under Mistletoe Christmas Card
How cute is the mistletoe and the colors here?!

Though, for some reason, I really like this card. It's not very "Christmas-y" and it's something I know Scott wouldn't completely hate. It's cheesy but not TOO cheesy. Plus, I like that it's beachy and we did just move to another beachy town.

Waves of Joy Holiday Card
See? Adorable.

...If all else fails... we could go the dog route again...

Missing Cookie Christmas Card
It is adorable though!

Shutterfly has more than just Christmas cards. It is a one stop shop for calendars, Christmas photo books, and personalized gifts.

So -- if you are reading this and I *know* you -- you better get on making yourself a Christmas card so that you can send one to me. ;-)

Random 90s Music & Music Linkup!

The giveaway that I ran last month where I asked for all your favorite 90s songs.... It started off as random, but then I was super interested in what you were posting. I went to go listen to these old songs... and then I thought... I want to list my Top songs of each decade! It made me not only inspired to start a weekly music linkup deal for a month but to also call out two songs that WEREN'T mentioned... by bands you've probably never heard of but you know the songs *all too well.* These are the songs that you KNOW but don't know WHY you know them.

First up, "Send Me On My Way" by Rusted Root. Huh? You totally know this song.

See? I told you. But, you probably can't REMEMBER why you know it {unless you're into hippie jam bands then you probably can't place it}.

Matilda! It was the happy ending!

And, that's just one of the many places it was featured in the 90s and even until today.

- Ice Age
- Enterprise commercial

I hear this song in the most random places. Grocery stores. When we went to Key West, it was blaring on Duval Street. Most recently, Slacker Radio was playing it on my "Great Songs You Forgot" station. Well, yes, I did definitely forget the artist and where I knew this song from.

Do you "know" this song?

Next is a song that used to always be in my head when I was younger. Not only was it the Party of Five theme song {YAY!} but I'm 99% convinced it was in my favorite kiddie movie of all time Heavyweights, but I can't find proof of it. And, I no longer own the movie. Damn!

It's "Closer to Free" by the BoDeans. I had no idea the BoDeans were a band until a few days ago. Again, Slacker Radio came through and played this song and such good memories came flooding back. Okay, memories of watching Party of Five and watching Heavyweights and being like 10 but whatEVER!

So -- now that I've brought out some obscure 90s "one hit wonders" I'm going to announce that Jen & I are hosting a super sweet link up that will make you THINK and go through your iTunes and your photos.... Your Top 10 Music Lists!

Music!

TUESDAYS

November 1st *** Oldies {Anything 1979 and earlier}
November 8th *** 80s

November 22nd *** 00s

You have plenty of time to schedule these for November and it will be a nice "break" from all the holiday blogging. :-) Though, i *do* love all the holidays posts ... I also love jamming to old school tunes and learning some new songs! So, I hope you link up with us or Jen & I will just link up with each other! You're soooo going to laugh at some of my favorite songs--especially my 90s ones!

Do You Journal? {Gadanke}

Do you "journal?" I wasn't sure that I did but now I am a full-on journal user. I've always written online diaries (Hello, Diaryland circa 1999 and Livejournal throughout high school & college), but it was time for paper journals to come back. I have been loving prompt based journals lately (I've purchased THREE!) and they are a great way to document your life at that current moment or get you to think about other topics. Whenever I use a journal, I end up feeling... happier?

One set of products that I have been loving lately are the Gadanke journals. I'm not sure when I first saw them, but I had to try them out. I decided to buy the Something Serious with Something Silly" list journal. On the website, this is the description: "There are lists for what’s under the bed and passport stamps you’re gonna get. There are puffy lines for some-day dreams and the sunny things that make every bit of your world better. Brace yourself for the most casual, exciting 30-word memoir you’ve ever written.

Book Club Friday: The Happiness Project

Book Club Friday

I read this book back at the end of August but I am still finding myself referencing it or highlighting it or talking about it with strangers. I figured I would share this book with everyone, and if you haven't read it... I don't know what's taking you so long! I also wanted to share some of my favorite quotations and and ideas from the book.

The idea of the book, if you didn't already know, was how a Supreme Court clerk quit her job to be a writer. She spent a year focusing on what makes people "happy" and made resolutions for things that would help get her organized, productive, motivated, and well... generally happy.

I personally loved the book. Sure, the idea of happiness is up to your own individuality, but I appreciated her ideas, her resolution organization, and the fact that she is so connected to social media that the Happiness Project doesn't have to end. She emails out her resolution charts, there are local groups for others trying their own Happiness Project, and she has a busy Facebook where she offers autographed book plates and memos. Perhaps this is why I haven't blogged about the book yet -- there's too much to share.

photo

My "bookplate" that I hung on my bulletin board. In the book, she says to "Be Gretchen" which basically means to accept who she is and who she is not. I asked to have her write "Be Krystal!" on it. I thought it came out cute. You can request these on her Facebook book for free (Search for Gretchen Rubin).

After reading the book, I sought out some of her ideas and wanted to keep track of them here.

Quotes That I Liked
"Junk attracks more junk. If you clear it off, it's likely to stay clear."
"Act the way I want to feel."
"What you do every day matters more than what you do once in a while."
"Happiness is neither virtue nor pleasure nor this thing nor that, but simply growth. We are happy when we are growing"--Yeats
"You can choose what you do; you can't choose what you like to do."
"Help people think big." She goes on to say "Words of enthusiasm and confidence from a friend can inspire you to tackle an ambitious goal."
"Spend Out: Don't think about the return." Instead of keeping score, just DO IT. Don't do something because you expect something in return.
"By the end of November, I'd realized that one of the most important lessons of the happiness project is that if I keep my resolutions and do the things that make me happier, I end up feeling happier and acting more virtuously. Do good, feel good. Feel good, do good."

Two Things I *really* Liked:
"One of the best ways to make yourself happy is to make other people happy. One of the best ways to make other people happy is to be happy yourself."
In the Make Time for Friends chapter, the part I liked the most was "Show Up." "80% of of success is showing up just as a big part of friendship is showing up. Unless you make consistent efforts, your friendships aren't going to survive."

Things That I'm Trying To Do--Inspired By This Book
>> Take Time for projects. Basically, she suggests to squeeze as much "fun" as you can from a single event. "To eke the most happiness from an experience, we must anticipate it, savor it as it unfolds, express happiness, and recall a happy memory."
>> Start a collection. I have a gazillion postcards--both blank and those that were received by me. The author started collecting bluebirds! What a cute little item to collect.
>> A Happiness Box--where the author collected all sorts of little trinkets meant to trigger happy thoughts and memories.
>> Remember BIRTHDAYS! She suggested sending out birthday emails to keep in touch with friends. I took this one step further and updated my planner with everyone's birthday and have been sending birthday cards out to their homes. It gave me a big boost of satistifaction, just as the author said it would. Also, it makes MY day when someone texts me to say how it made THEIR day they received a personalized birthday card.
>> Indulge in a modest splurge. She bought NICE pens. I did the same. My Sharpie Pens are expensive but they give me so much pleasure when I write with them in my planner! Other modest splurges involve glittery nail polish, stationary, postage.
>> One-sentence journal. Help remember the ordinary of your day but also this would be neat to re-read after a long period of time. This could also be a "Happiness Journal." What made you happy today?
>> Keep a gratitude notebook. What are you thankful for today? "Gratitude is important to happiness" She logged three things each day that made her thankful along with her one sentence journal.
>> Find your passion. "Making time for a passion and treating it as a real priority instead of an 'extra' to be fitted in at a free moment will bring a tremendous happiness boost."
>> Change computer passwords to something more inspirational. If you have to type them in everyday multiple times a day , they should be something that stimulates your thoughts! My current passwords involve my birthday, so I think that's why I'm a big birthday person and make a big deal about the day.
>> Keep a food diary! I've been doing this via My Fitness Pal on my phone. It's nice to see and see how far I have come but how far I still have to go.

Things The Book Inspired Me To Do That I Haven't Yet:
>> Get a pedometer {to prove how lazy I really am}
>> "Blank Books" -- A book filled with clippings, memorabilia, notes, cartoons, lists, etc. Sounds like a scrapbook but it's so much more than that.
>> Start an "interest Log" to track things that you like and want to research more.
>> Buy 3 new magazines--ones that you'd never have read otherwise. The author closed her eyes in a magazaine newsstand and picked three really random magazines but ended up gaining different prespectives and learning new things.

To conclude, I love how she mentioned this at the end of the book. Most of all - "you hit a goal, you keep a resolution."

Just re-reading my notes and some of these passages put me in a better mood today.
:-)

Here is the Happiness Project online and the Happiness Project Toolbox which has all kinds of charts and tools!

Hey, it's OK... {!}

Its Ok Thursdays

Hey, It's OK...

- To drive through a car wash with your wallet on the roof of your car--OUTSIDE. Wallet = soaked but luckily not lost. It's okay to admit your forgetfulness.

- To be happy to wear a sweater today! It's getting colder out in the SWFLA!

- To unapologetically pimp out Crowdtap! I am getting a free Old Navy coat! All those minutes I spent doing surveys and posting discussions finally paid off. They're mailing me a voucher for 1 piece of women's outerwear so I get to pick what I want! There are so many choices.

- To obsess over glitter polishes. I just LOVE sparkly things. :-)

- To love Easy Fries. They are SO cheap but SO bad for you... though... they can't be worse than McDonald's, right?

- To not know what you're going to be for Halloween.

- To not know what you're even DOING on Halloween. Besides working. Who has Halloween on a MONDAY?! Who planned this calendar?!

- To already have some Christmas card designs picked out. Christmas > Halloween.

- To be drooling over more Erin Condren crap. I blame YOU. The address book seems like a good idea -- especially since I send out letters often! Hint, Hint. My birthday is in December.

- To kind of-maybe-already am excited for a concert that isn't happening until my Birthday weekend! See, Ft Myers DOES have cool stuff! (Every once in a while) Mat Kearney, James Blunt, Parachute ( I LOVE THEM ), Gavin Degraw, Michelle Branch (Is she still relevant?), and ya know, Hanson. NBD.

And, Hey It's OK... to genuinely miss leaving comments on all your lovely blogs! I can post, edit and read all your blogs through my phone but I can't really comment. And, I don't want to use my work computer to do such a thing! ;-) I'm still reading and following along!

The Night We Were Zombies

Since we moved, I have been constantly getting told that there is nothing to do in our new area or that it just isn't like home. Well, I mean sure... the proximity of craft beer bars is a little sucky and the selection of "nightlife" near us is non-existent... but there are other things that are seeming to redeem our new home.

Enter ZombieCon. Really? A street party where everyone is encouraged to dress like zombies and, well, drink? Sign me up. I guess this happens in other cities as well (I noticed several tweets/status updates from friends in faraway states mentioning their ZombieCon as well), but it is a *huge* deal in Ft. Myers. Apparently. I mean, I didn't know much about it until five days ago.

One of the highlights of the event was an attempt to break the world record for most zombies gathered in one place at one time. We were each given a wristband and they took our information so we could "count." Apparently they broke the record and are waiting for official Guinness results. At least, that was the rumor. The previous record was like 4,000 something and they estimated there was at least 10,000 zombies there. Can you believe it, 10,000 crazies dressed up like dead people? ;-)

So... yes. I was a zombie.

43

I wore an 80s style kind of lacy gothicy dress. That's a fake hand feeling me up. Classy.

The husband looked pretty damn convincing. Who knew he could apply makeup so well?

photo

While the night ended in a crazy way (I mean, of course, when does it ever end normally?), we still had a great time and woke up with zombie makeup still on our faces. And hangovers.

Happy Zombies!

Dove Nourishing Oil Hair Care Products Review & Giveaway!

I love getting products in the mail! Last time Dove contacted me for a review, it was for their sweet creme body wash which I still use and LOVE. Makes your skin so soft! This time -- it's for new Dove Nourising Oil Care products! When used together, Dove claims that these products will nourish and smooth your rough hair and frizz making your hair much, much more manageable.

Dove's current campaign, "Make Friends with Your Hair" features actress Rashida Jones where she filmed a humorous series of videos dramatizing the hair issues many women struggle with on a daily basis. As part of the campaign, Dove® is inviting women everywhere to share their most unpredictable hair stories to help them end their frustration with unmanageable hair that has a mind of its own. Women can enter the campaign by creating a video up to 90 secondssharing how their hair has an alter ego, by telling a story, acting out a humorous scene or even singing an original song! Three finalists will win a VIP trip to New York, a hair transformation from Dove Celebrity Stylist Mark Townsend, and one winner will star in a Dove Hair TV ad in December. For full details on the Dove® “Make Friends with Your Hair” contest, you can visit the official site here. Entries are due on the 19th--that's WEDNESDAY!

So -- back to the Dove Nourishing Products! They sent me Dove Nourishing Oil Care Shampoo, Conditioner, Leave-In Cream and Anti-Frizz Serum. What a great package! Anyway, as you know, my hair is kind of the suck and is thick, frizzy, and ridiculous in the Florida humidity. I'm always willing to give new anti-frizz products a try. I will say that switching from Pantene to Dove for a few days did wonders to my hair. Whenever I switch to a new shampoo, my hair just LOVES it. Weird, huh? Anyway, I also used the anti-frizz serum while blowdrying and I was pleasantly surprised. My hair felt lighter and wasn't so frizztastic as the day went on. Their conditioners are amazing, again another Dove product I am familiar with, so if you want to try just one of these products definitely get the conditioner!

Get a free sample, while supplies last, here!

Or... you could win the whole set right here!

1. Leave a comment below either telling me what sucks about your hair. If you have perfect hair, I hate you. ;-)

Book Club Friday: Dollar Tree Score!

Book Club Friday is back again with Heather and this time I'm going to play along...

...

Just because I found the most awesomest book ever at the Dollar Tree.

Do you ever raid the Dollar Tree's book selection? I have found some real GEMS along the shelves. Mostly political books (for some reason) and chick lit books by authors I have never heard of... but THIS! This was a real find.

photo

Unforgettable You: Master the Elements of Style, Spirituality, and True Beauty by none other than Daisy Fuentes.

SCORE!

Clearly I purchased this. I mean the back cover had reviews from JENNY MCCARTHY! Winner.

Here is the synopsis from Amazon: "For more than two decades, women have approached model, fashion designer, and international TV personality Daisy real for her take on what makes a person more desirable, more billable, and more bankable than others. What exactly is that "it" factor? Revealing tips that she has learned from her life in and out of the spotlight and from other celebrities and experts, Daisy shows you how to perceive yourself honestly and accurately. Only then can you feel and look absolutely irresistible, with a head-turning walk and a million-dollar smile. Unforgettable You helps you to become the very best version of yourself. Daisy breaks her approach down to easy-to-follow areas on which to focus your improvements: inner reflection, etiquette, relationships, sex, spirituality, and beauty. By the end of this book, you’ll know Daisy better, but most important, you’ll know yourself better and you will be armed with all the tools you need to be unforgettable—from the inside out."

Ricky Martin even endorsed this y'all: “Daisy calls it as she sees it. This book is a must read for anyone who thinks they have all the answers.” --Ricky Martin

To be serious though -- it is kind of a cute read. There are places inside to write down your thoughts as Daisy serves up some writing prompts to get you thinking. The last two books that I have read were "journals" that I doodled and wrote my happy thoughts in, so this was actually kind of seriously a good find at the moment. It certainly fit into what I've been into lately.

Do you read journal or diary type books? Self-help books? Please give me your favorites. I don't like to read fiction books usually so nonfiction humor memoirs or positive books like this are my *thing.*

Gettin' Artsy: Raku Pottery

One of the perks at my new gig is the option to take some art classes. Now, I'm not exactly Mrs. Creativity, but I do enjoy some easy art every once in a while.

A seat was open in a class called Raku Pottery. I had never heard of "raku" until I started my job, but basically, it's where you glaze a pot with raku paints, put it in a super hot kiln powered by like propane or something until it is 1800 degrees, and then drop it in a closed garbage can with newspapers to let the colors "do their thing." Basically the glaze reacts with whatever is in the container and there is no oxygen so something happens. After that, it gets rinsed off and then cleaned and it's ready to GO. I'm sure there's a more technical explanation somewhere... but that is how I interpreted my first raku experience to be.

For the purpose of this class, the pieces were already made and we just chose our favorite to glaze.

6

I picked this beauty.

11
I then added a zig zag tape to the pot all the way around. In raku, whatever you DON'T glaze turns black and I was trying to be artsy. It kind of worked as you'll see.

10
I then glazed my pot. The bottom was a green color and the above the zig zag was this metallic color. You'll see this does not matter in the long run!

5
The set up for the raku process.

9
Removing my TAPE! My pot is ready to go.

FIRE.
4
SEE HOW HOT it is.

8
Dumping it in a trash can and closing it up.

3
Removing, cooling them off.

7
Sitting pretty after being rinsed.

1
Mine is on the right, someone elses is next to me. See how the colors change due to the heat and all? It's very unpredictable. You never know for certain what you will get!

2
My finished project! This is the "good" side. The tape was not THAT even on the other side and it drives me crazy.

Though this is for sure not what I was expecting when I was painting my pot -- but I think it turned out pretty cool. :-)

It's first piece "knick knack" in our new house... LOL. Now -- what other "artsy" things should I try?! I'm kind of interested in glass! That seems fool proof? ;-)
