We headed down to the southernmost part of Key West for breakfast at a place called the Southernmost Cafe. It was right on the water and had its own tiny beach and pier nearby. It was a great spot for some group photos before we all left for home.
A view of the Cafe from the pier. Check out that seaweed! Now, as a Floridian, I can say that I do love Key West but for anyone reading this... you do not go to Key West for their beaches! For reals. There are much prettier beaches up and down both coasts [though I am partial to Gulf Coast beaches and their soft white sand!]. Key West has great activities on the water [like snorkeling], but in my opinion, if you want a nice beach to sunbathe and hang out... Key West isn't it. It's still pretty though!
A display inside the restaurant where guests put a pushpin with where they are from...
that thing was covered!
Though these views make it look quite beautiful:
And, for good measure, one of the two of us on the pier before we left:
We then started our "long" journey home!
It was a great trip and I'm so glad that we had the opportunity to go. It felt kind of like our "last" adult vacation for awhile. We have been going to the Keys every year since we have met so hopefully that tradition doesn't stop! ;) We were already talking about the logistics of bringing a near one year old down next summer. That would work, right?
Though ... our next Keys trip will certainly be to Islamorada.
Friends... keep your late summer calendars open in 2013! ;)

You are so right that Key West beaches are not great. We didn't realize that until we got there, ha! But we LOVED Southernmost Cafe, we ate there for lunch and dinner :)
I've never been to the Keys but I'm glad I know not to go for the beaches :)
I would not have known about the beaches being not great there! But I would love to snorkel, so that would be cool. Are the beaches in Islamorada nicer?
Totally agree, I wasn't a fan of the Key West beaches. I prefer Siesta Key!
I think you should keep up your tradition of going! I'm sure you can find all kinds of fun stuff to do with a baby there.
